Human Nature

As human beings, we always want to make ourselves seem perfect to every prying soul. Error may be human, but we still don't believe that we have any. We are compelled to keep secrets from each other, large or small. Sometimes, you wonder why you're even keeping this from anyone. Other times, you know exactly why, and you're scared to death that someone might, by some odd chance, find out. Of course, there are many other things that prove time and again that humans are anything but perfect. Lying, cheating, violence, drug abuse, alcohol overdose...The list can go on and on. Even so, with every major flaw comes a minor perfection.

Our behavior is indeed amazing. As we live our lives, people all around us are suffering. Dark, lonely hearts trying to find a place in the world. In their time of need, our shimmer of light in midst of all of our imperfection is that we tend to care. When someone is about to take their own life because of a foreclosure, we step in and help. We become a friend to those who have none. We desire to comfort people when that's all they need. Maybe it's because we feel a need to be useful to others. Maybe it's because we just want to please. One way or another, it is a magnificent event when it does happen.

Also, happiness. Joy is the most flawless perfection that we could ever have. It brings enemies together. It heals all wounds. When we are in a curtain of black, with no hope visible, joy is the ray of sunshine that shows that the haze can be lifted. It is joy that attracts us to other people, and allows us to make bonds with them. If there was no emotion like that, we would not be capable of love, not capable of friendship, not capable of mercy. Thank God that we have this blessing.
